Travelling Back in Time to… 1982

Hoping everyone is doing well with exams back at home at the moment. Coincidently, I had my very own ‘exam’ today too at ESSEC for a finance class: Gestion de Trésorerie Internationale (International Treasury Management). It is basically (for those who go to UNSW, which will make much more sense to you…) a mix of learning parts of FINS1612, 1613 and IBF – but in french.

Fortunately, our teacher is extremely nice and very helpful, as we also had the occasion to revise the topics last week during a supplementary lesson. Most of you are probably wondering why I am talking about this in the first place. For one thing, the exam wasn’t too hard at all in my opinion as it was basically the same as the revision exam we did last week, but with less questions. But the main thing I wanted to focus on was the issue of calculators. As most of you would know, universities prefer equality and thus, during exams they provide us with calculators to ensure that no one person has an advantage with a superior calculator.

At UNSW, we use the Casio ones circa 2001-‘02 style. But, at ESSEC…. we don’t. Because you see at ESSEC, they would prefer us to not have the ‘possibility of saving formuale in memories on the calculator’, that we all get given calculators circa early 80’s. No brackets or parentheses. No multiple memories. No to the power of x key. Superb, isn’t it!

On to more exciting news: I finally braved myself and got my hair cut today! Having delayed it for a while as I was too scared in case my hair got damaged and I ended up looking completely ridiculous, I finally decided to throw myself into the deep end today. I would have gone to Paris to get it cut but as I couldn’t be bothered with going all the way in JUST for a haircut and as there are 2 hairdressers right near here in Cergy, I thought I’d give one of them a try.

After deciding between the two, I ended up with the one with less people when I entered but with a flow of customers thereafter (good choice H!) and a lovely hairdresser who was perfectly nice and did a great job too! Many thanks must now go to a certain Sophie who prepared me well for the big cut!!

Other than that, I think it is time to write up my other postcards as I have been putting most of them off for a while (sorry everyone!) and we are also in the process of (finally) updating the layout for Les Deux (but progress is slow) – the typical French style :)
